"A lark with a firm superstructure in fact" (Bader)
THE MAN IN THE MANHOLE
By Margaret Wise Brown (as Juniper Sage), illustrated by Bill Ballantine
First edition of this rare Margaret Wise Brown pseudonymous title, inscribed by the illustrator.
THE MAN IN THE MANHOLE
One of Scott's creative education books, this shows what "fix-it men" do underneath the streets and in the air. Also written with Edith Hurd, it is marvelously illustrated by Bill Ballantine in color. Apart from his career as an illustrator, Ballantine's fascination with the circus led him to becoming a professional clown, along with Emmett Kelley, for Ringling Brother's Barnum and Bailey Circus.
