THE RED FAIRY BOOK
Andrew Lang is considered the fairytale taste-maker of late 19th and early 20th century British nurseries, with his color fairy book series leading the charge. Stories in this volume include Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and The Twelve Dancing Princesses. THE BLUE FAIRY BOOK and the subsequent RED FAIRY BOOK were enormously popular, and led to the publication of the GREEN, YELLOW, PINK, GREY, VIOLET, CRIMSON, BROWN, ORANGE, OLIVE,and LILAC fairy books. However, the books never quite reached that level of popularity in America, leading to Lang's humorous remark in his inscription: "Would that America bought my Books half as much as they request my Autograph!"
