Two finished pen-and-ink drawings for Emma Sterne's book, published by Dodd Mead in 1935.
Original art from DRUMS OF MONMOUTH
These pieces appear as a full page illustration on page 53 of the book and a 1/3 page illustration of Sergeant Amos Duke on page 187. They are characteristic of Lawson's incredible mastery of pen-and-ink illustration. His attention to detail makes the characters come alive. Because the main body of Lawson's work is held institutionally, original published works by him rarely appear on the market.
n.p. n.p, [no later than 1935]. 10'' x 5'' both images, 14.5'' x 11'' board. Single artist board. Top image signed by Lawson. Address of Dodd Mead and book title on verso of board. Sold with a first edition of the book.
