"Father, do not forgive them, for they know what they do."
Arthur Szyk's art was exhibited widely during his lifetime, and was praised for its illuminated manuscript-like qualities. He turned his brush to political caricature after the Nazi invasion of his native Poland in 1933, exhibiting his anti-Axis works in London in 1940. A number of his pieces drew on racial stereotypes of the Japanese and others. THE NEW ORDER is a collection of a number of his caricatures, and was published on the eve of the US's entry into WWII.
This copy is inscribed to Florence Berryman, art critic for THE WASHINGTON STAR and daughter of noted political cartoonist Clifford Berryman.
