The Novel That Brought Malibu Surfing Into The Popular Imagination
By Frederick Kohner
First printing of the tale of "the little girl with big ideas" that launched the surfing craze of the 1960s.
"'Surfing is serious business. Not for dames.' <br />'I'm not dames,' I said."
This first-person narrative of a teenage girl's introduction to surfing in Malibu was based on the author's daughter, Kathy Kohner. Soon Gidget became a cultural phenomenon, riding the same wave of enthusiasm as the Beach Boys.
