Rare first edition, warmly inscribed by Derrida.
"A text is not a text unless it hides from the first comer, from the first glance, the law of its composition and the rules of its game."
LA DISSEMINATION collects three important early essays, originally published in Tel Quel (La Pharmacie de Platon, La Double Seance, and La Dissemination). In earlier works, Derrida had used the term "deconstruction" in passing; in the preface to this collection, he offers one of the three "classical" definitions of the term — the first such definition to appear in book form. Dense, essential, and decidedly scarce when signed.
Paris: Editions du Seuil, (1972). 8'' x 5.5''. Original printed wraps. 416 pages. Text in French. Derrida's inscription to half-title in blue ink ("Pour Jean-Pierre et Francois / en signe de fidele affection / Jacques.") Mild toning to wraps and edges of text block; spine sunned. Light wear to corners.
