"The earliest collections in Danish are of the utmost rarity; and the English translations in 1846 and 1847 are almost as rare." – Percy Horace Muir
Andersen's autobiography reveals that the artist visited by the moon in these stories is based upon himself: "I hired a little garret; it is described in the Fiddler; and in The Picture Book without Pictures, people may see that I often received there visits from the moon." First published in Danish in 1839, this edition was translated by Meta Taylor following Mary Howitt's individual translations in THE PEOPLE'S JOURNAL. A beautiful copy, with the elaborately decorated cloth rarely found in this condition.
