First edition of this "popular account of phosphorescent animals and vegetables," in the stunning original pictorial cloth binding with phosphorescent details depicted in silver.
Very good plus.
"No fairy tale of human invention can relate to us more fascinating scenes than are realized in Nature's carnivals of the sea."
Amateur readers are granted a tour through the wonders of bioluminescence, with many charming anecdotes and full-page wood-engraved illustrations along the way, like "M. de Tessan reading by light of the phosphorescent sea." The book is most remarkable for its striking American publisher's cloth binding (an edition was also published in London the same year in a far less fantastic binding). Holder hoped the beautiful book and unusual content would attract more young readers to studying natural history.
