THE GREAT ESCAPE
"[T]hey proverd for all posterity that men, working together, can dig a damned deep hole in the ground – or build a shining Tower of Babel." – Lt. George Harsh
"The Great Escape" was planned by POWs for over a year before it was finally executed. After the fugitives of the 1943 escape attempt from Stalag Luft III were recaptured and shot by German soldiers, Brickhill determined to publish their story in order to honor and preserve their memory. The 1963 film adaptation starring Steve McQueen remains a core film within American pop culture's masculine identity.
