Inscribed first printing of this largely autobiographical collection of poems composed in the early years of the Beat writer's career.
"Some of the poems achieve a perfection and a voice that is uniquely Diane di Prima's" – Alan S. Marlowe, introduction
Di Prima's first husband Alan S. Marlowe chose poems from di Prima's notebooks that he felt "were closest to the flow of the poet's personal life and therefore best presented a picture of the author and her life." A penciled note says this copy was inscribed "for Allen DeLoach," the editor of INTREPID magazine who was friendly with a number of major Beat writers, including Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, and of course di Prima – aside from the unusually warm inscription by di Prima to someone who knew her in the late 1950s, there is no other internal evidence for this. Still, a lovely copy with a personal inscription.
