First printing of Le Guin's feminist update to her acclaimed Earthsea series, in which the complicated implications are explored of women magic users in that universe.
About fine in fine jacket.
"What I'd been doing as a writer was being a woman pretending to think like a man [...] I had to rethink my entire approach to writing fiction." Le Guin
In Arwen Curry's documentary, WORLDS OF URSULA K. LE GUIN, the author reflected on her mistakes with the first three books of the series: "the Earthsea books as feminist literature are a total complete bust." Initially published as a trilogy from 1968 to 1972, the Earthsea series received new life with this book published nearly a decade later, when Le Guin was finally able to embrace a more feminist approach to the world. It continues the story of Tenar, the heroine of the second book TOMBS OF ATUAN. Subtitled "the last novel of Earthsea," it would be followed by the collection TALES FROM EARTHEA and the true final novel THE OTHER WIND. Nebula Award winner. A great copy.
