Betsy James Wyeth is credited with guiding Andrew Wyeth's art in formative ways: as editor, marketer, manager, and critic. (The son of N.C. Wyeth, Andrew's relationship with his father was always strained, especially after the son's success shepherded by Betsy.) Betsy introduced Andrew to Christina Olson, who would become the subject depicted in 'Christina's World' – named by Betsy. A founder of the Brandywine Conservancy described Betsy: "She had the tact of a general and the grace of a queen."
