Signed first printing of this harrowing firsthand account of a disastrous ascent of Mt. Everest.
Fine in fine jacket.
"I quickly came to understand that climbing Everest was primarily about enduring pain."
An accomplished mountaineer and journalist, Krakauer was already well qualified to write a thrilling account of his Everest journey. When a storm struck before climbers had reached safety, guides and more experienced mountaineers acted to face the crisis that would end in the death of 8 climbers (including Krakauer's own guide). Bringing topical expertise with a journalist's eye for narrative, Krakauer observed and recorded the experience with visceral yet crystal-clear detail. A highlight of 1990s nonfiction, deserving of its acclaim.
