First impression of the elusive 3rd James Bond novel, in a lovely original dust jacket with some light restoration.
Fine in very good plus jacket.
"It is all utterly disgraceful – and highly enjoyable. Without MOONRAKER no railway journey should be undertaken." – John Metcalf, The Spectator
The colors in the stylized flames of this original dust jacket "are the most striking combination for poster purposes, so should show up well on the book stalls," Fleming remarked while discussing advertising with his editor. The jacket emphasizes the letters of the title and author, as per Fleming's request: it was only in later Bond books that Richard Chopping's trompe l'oeil technique, based on eerie and evocative objects, would become central to the Bond brand. The early Bond books are increasingly scarce, printed in significantly smaller numbers than later novels in the series and often well read by their owners. This one has always been a fan favorite.
