Scarce catalogue of the Belgian symbolist's lithographs and engravings with an original lithographed cover by the artist.
CAHIER NO. 2: Dessins et Gravures 1966-1969
"La floraison sans commentaires<br />De cette hermétique Cythère."<br />(Laforgue)
The second of Le Bateau Lavoir's catalogues of Delvaux's works, following an earlier exhibition and accompanying publication in 1966 and continuing that publication's numbering system. Delvaux's dark-eyed, pensive women who have forgotten to get dressed exude their characteristically compelling dreaminess; in several prints ("Bilitis," "Le Salon Rouge") a more direct eroticism appears, as the figures turn away from mirrors and dressmakers' dummies and towards each other. With a reproduction of Jules Laforgue's poem Cythère.
Paris: Le Bateau Lavoir, 1969. 8'' x 6.25''. Original lithographed wrappers. 15 plates, in color and black and white. Minimal edgewear, light toning to wrappers.
