First edition of this brief publication dedicated to a select number of Germans fallen in World War II, accompanied by an original signed woodcut by Gerhard Marcks.
Very good plus.
"However, the duty of loyalty weighed heavily on everyone who had to recognize that the rulers of Germany were destroying the empire externally and internally."<br /><br />("Schwer lastete jedoch die treuepflicht auf allen, die erkennen mussten, dass die machthaber deutschlands das reich aeusserlich und innerlich zerstoerten.")
Memorial to sixty members of the German nobility who died during second World War, including brothers Berthold and Claus Schenck Graf von Stauffenberg, two leaders of the failed July Plot to assassinate Hitler in 1944 (listed separately from the rest, to mark this distinction), as well as their sister-in-law, Luftwaffe test pilot Melitta Schenk Gräfin von Stauffenberg. With a signed woodcut of the resurrected Jesus by Marcks, whose work was judged unsuitable by the Nazis and included in the 1937 "Degenerate Art" exhibition; the artist later designed several memorials for those who died in the war.
Stuttgard-Zuffenhausen: Hermann Henkel, (1968). 9'' x 8''. Original beige cloth, flexible boards. 7 leaves. Illustrated with signed woodcut by Marcks. Touches of soil to cloth.
