Saunders was a member of the National Security Council staff from 1961 through Johnson's tenure as President. He subsequently served as Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs from 1978 to 1981 and was intrumental in both the Camp David Accords as well as the Iranian hostage crisis. Johnson was something of a reluctant signer and books genuinely inscribed by him are uncommon, with many secretarial examples misidentified. A warm association.
