Postmarked February 24 and July 13, 1959, respectively. The first approximately eighty words, discussing his process of revision to an unnamed book: "But I now feel that I cannot do a substantial job of reduction without sacrificing more of the book than I want to sacrifice..." The second brief: "Thank you for your kind note. I am glad you liked the piece." The book mentioned is likely Warren's 1959 novel THE CAVE as an excerpt titled BLACK IS THE COVER OF MY TRUE LOVE'S HAIR appeared in the September 1959 issue of ESQUIRE.
