A provocative work informed by the countercultural movements of the 1960s, about the lives of lesbian women in the early part of the 20th century. The contemporary NEW YORK TIMES review of it noted about O'Hara: "he surely has the most authentically dirty mind in American fiction. His in not the stale narcissism of a Roth or the gentle romanticism of a Hemingway, but the true dirtiness of the locker room and the barracks" (NYT, Richard Rhodes, 30 November 1969).
New York: Random House, (1969). 8.5'' x 5.5''. Original full brown cloth stamped in gilt and blue. In original unclipped ($5.95) purple jacket designed by Muriel Nasser. Orange topstain, green endpapers, fore-edge machine deckle. [6], 249, [1] pages. Trace handling wear, otherwise bright, sound, unmarked.
