An overview of the museum, with 44 black and white plates of its holdings, including works by Matisse, Gris, Miro and Picasso. The Gallery of Living Art was founded in 1927 by A.E. Gallatin, one of the most important early collectors of modernist art, as a public space for the exhibition of his personal collection. The Gallery of Living Art is considered the first museum dedicated exclusively to modernism, and became a resource for contemporary artists in the downtown New York art scene. Includes four-page essay by Gallatin, and a nine-page essay by Mauny. Copy of Ferol Sibley Warthen, a listed Provincetown, MA artist and student of important modernist Blanche Lazell, with her (Warthen's) small inscription to interior front. Scarce.
First Edition. New York: [n.p.], [1930]. Wraps. 12mo. Measuring approximately 5" x 7.25." Original silver foil wraps wraps with circular die cut to front. Original cellophane sheets over front and rear intact (though rear detached). Contents partially disbound, separated from wraps. Loss from spine. Moderate foxing throughout. Complete, but good to fair only, as common. A fragile production.
