Included among the honorees is Lucille Clifton, whose poem "Miss Rosie" is printed in full — only her second poem to appear in print. Also printed is Clifton's self-penned biography. In full: "I am 32 years old, married and have six children. Before this year I had had only poem published in Negro Digest magazine. Publishing has seemed less important than writing and I hadn't thought about it much. I majored in Drama at Howard University a long time ago but I dropped out. My family is my first thing and everything else is second, etc. I love to read good things to people." Clifton published her first book, GOOD TIMES (Random House, 1969) as a direct result of having won this prize. A rare piece of ephemera that in many ways marks the beginning of the career of one of our most important African American poets.
