Both the printer and designer of this book were influential early movers in book arts: Carl Ernst Poeschel successfully made the Poeschel & Trepte firm "one of Germany's leading printers in the first half of the 20th century," and Emil Rudolf Weiss was a popular illustrator and typographer (German Museum of Books and Writing). This was Weiss's last work before the Nazis revoked his teaching license in 1933.

With black-and-white illustrated initials and pictorial title pages for each Gospel. 238, [2] pages. Signed by Weiss to colophon and numbered 417 of 1500. In original slipcase with paper title label to spine. Slipcase with a touch of shelfwear. Leaves with scattered foxing. Clean and bright.
