First edition of this economically minded craft book for children that "shows how many things lying around the house [...] can, with proper application, be made into things of beauty and usefulness."
Very good minus.
"A dear little book... that will make little fingers busy and minds of little folk happy." – St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Many of the crafts introduced in WORK AND PLAY FOR LITTLE GIRLS are made using household items, including a whole section on making dollhouse furniture out of matchsticks and matchboxes.
Though this book's title clearly names girls as its intended audience, in her introduction, the author claims it is "addressed to all children, boys as well as girls." Its review in the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH also emphasizes that "much in it has fascination for boys as well as girls." Perhaps this was another example of thrift: why should parents buy books for their daughters and sons, when they could buy books that could be used by any child?
