Written while Rudyard Kipling lived in Vermont with his family, CAPTAINS COURAGEOUS is a classic English nautical adventure story with a distinctly American flavor. This tale of a spoiled rich boy coming into his own after being rescued by a fishing vessel was originally serialized in McCLURE'S, and was inspired by the Kiplings' "family physician, who had shipped as a sailor in his boyhood" (Rice, 370).
This copy was once owned by English book collector and publisher Michael Sadleir, who founded THE BOOK COLLECTOR periodical with Ian Fleming. An attractive volume with lovely provenance.
