Mahlon Day was a prolific and successful 19th-century chapbook publisher, as evidenced by the long list of other "Juvenile Books" he advertises for sale on the rear wrapper of this copy of THE BABES IN THE WOODS. Many of his publications feature short rhymes encouraging children to spend their own money on his books, rather than leaving the selection of reading material up to their parents.

Leaves with scattered foxing. Illustrations sharp.
