"I paint what cannot be photographed. I photograph what I don't want to paint."
Twelve beautifully reproduced prints by Man Ray, a selection spanning the years 1918 to 1956 and including two Rayographs, a solarized portrait of Georges Braque, the 1933 cover design for his first monograph, a fashion photograph, and two illustrations for Louis Aragon's "Aurélien." With a brief overview of his career by editor Daniela Palazzoli and a biographical introduction by Romeo Martinez, who writes: "[I]f the Muse presiding over photography was generous in her gifts to him, he was sometimes rather sharp in his references to her, in his caustic and paradoxical way," free with provocation in the way of a great and eclectic "artist and experimenter who doesn't bother about enshrined aesthetic canons."
