With Wrappers Designed By Warhol
Edited by Andy Warhol, Kasper König, Pontus Hultén, and Olle Granath
Scarce third edition of the catalogue for Warhol's 1968 exhibition at Stockholm's Moderna Museet.
"If you want to know about Andy Warhol, just look at the surface of my paintings and films and me, and there I am. There's nothing behind it."
A handsome copy of this profusely illustrated exhibition catalogue from Warhol's first European solo show, an exhaustive visual document preceded by brief and enigmatic interview responses from Warhol in English with Swedish translations. Both Warhol's works and his working conditions are represented, with photographs of Factory denizens John Cale, Edie Sedgwick, Nico, and dozens on dozens of others. Curator Olle Granath later recalled: "The book was an important part of the exhibition. I was aided by the brilliant team of John Melin and Gösta Svensson who quickly realized that it was a project for a newspaper printer and booked the printer of the daily Värnamo Nyheter. The photographers Billy Name and Stephen Eric Shore had edited their series of images of life with and around Warhol, so we just used their material as it was."
