"We weren't guilty of anything, but we made that deal to save the other brothers from going to state prison."
This powerful and harrowing memoir was written during Bobby Seale's time in prison as one of the "Chicago 8" defendants. Due to Seale's protests against the blatant racism he and the seven other men faced during the trial, the judge ordered him to be bound and gagged for the duration — the shocking image of the restrained Seale adorns both the dust jacket and the binding of the book. An important firsthand account of the early days of the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, and a clear manifesto for the organization's stance.
