PRAYERS FOR THE USE OF FAMILIES is an excellent illustration of early US American thriftiness in the printing and binding of books. From the use of a skillfully repaired leather scrap as a covering material to the clearly un-copy-edited numbering of gatherings, it is evident that a number of bibliographic corners were cut to get this book into the hands of customers. The doubled first page of the preface is particularly amusing.

Contemporary tree calf binding with red spine label. 266 pages, collated complete. Early ownership stamp to front flyleaf. Binding with some edgewear, leather a bit cracked at joints; two contemporary leather repairs to front board, likely done before binding. Leaves variously foxed. A solid copy.
