Kellogg has written and/or illustrated more than one hundred children's books. He is a recipient of the Regina Medal for lifetime contribution to children's literature, and his books have won numerous awards such as the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, the Irma Simonton Black Award, the IRA-CBC Children's Choice Award, and the Parents' Choice Award. In 2011 he donated his archive to the University of Findlay's Mazza Museum.

Inscribed by Kellogg to half title page: "For Kevin [drawing of a star] / from you friend / Steven Kellogg." Below Kellogg has added an elaborate drawing of a snake. Lower corner of front flap clipped, not affecting price. Tiny closed tear to bottom of rear panel. Faint touches of shelfwear overall. Some sunning to spine. Else clean and sharp.
