In her study of movable books, Jacqueline Reid-Walsh says that "the term 'pop-up book' is a modern one of American coinage that emerged in the 1930s when Blue Ribbon Publishing worked with the Disney studio to loosely adapt popular fairy tales into a movable book format." (Pop-up collector Ellen Rubin has shown examples of earlier books using the term, such as a circa 1912 British "Pop-Up Book," not widely known but predating this; it was Blue Ribbon, however, that introduced the term into copyright.) In the same year as their SILLY SYMPHONIES and KING ARTHUR'S COURT publications that used original Disney characters but were based on fairy tales, Disney and Blue Ribbon issued this pop-up with an original story for Minnie. As with other early Blue Ribbon pop-ups, it is somewhat common in a poor state, but quite difficult to obtain in great condition. This is an exceptionally lovely and intact copy.
