"The relevant point is that my nursery rhymes are tiny, unconscious works of art within their own limitations; very young sisters of their grown-up brother, Poetry, but of the same parentage as he."
Vita Sackville-West was an acclaimed author of novels, poetry, and literary criticism, as well as the inspiration for Virginia Woolf's lead character in ORLANDO. Her NURSERY RHYMES ponders and analyses the genre in a wider literary context, pausing frequently to enjoy the inherent charms of classic rhymes.
