Trina Schart Hyman, the NEW YORK TIMES notes, "illustrated an entire shelf of children's books and inspired many others who worked in the genre." Hyman illustrated over 150 books over her busy career, for which she earned a Caldecott Medal and three Caldecott Honors. In addition to her work for children's books, she served as an art director and staff artist for beloved children's magazine CRICKET from 1972-1979.
This retelling of Sir Gareth of Orkney, following King Arthur's nephew's quest for honor and love, nods to the conflicting endings of Mallory's and Tennyson's versions of the story by heavily implying that Gareth enters into a polyamorous relationship with both love interests.
