"Don't You realise I aint but eleven years old? How do You expect me to do all this at just eleven years old? Dont You see You are putting on me more than I can handle?"
The second of Faulkner's novels to win a Pulitzer Prize, and his last work in the form. Set in the author's Yoknapatawpha County and incorporating characters from previous novels, the events and emotions of THE REIVERS are acutely observed and precisely rendered although the novel exhibits markedly less of Faulkner's characteristic stylistic complexity and experimental structure than his earlier works. This allowed for a relatively straightforward film adaptation starring Steve McQueen in 1969, notable for co-star Rupert Crosse's nomination for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award – the first such nomination for an African American actor – and its score, by an already accomplished John Williams. An attractive copy of a significant work by one of the most acclaimed US writers of the 20th century.
