First printing of this work on the history and future of making films appear more three-dimensional, in part to compete with the rising popularity of home TVs.
Very good plus.
THIRD DIMENSION MOVIES AND E-X-P-A-N-D-E-D SCREEN
"It may be that the introduction of these systems at this time will prove to be the stimulant that has been needed by the industry since the advent of home television."
THIRD DIMENSION MOVIES is a very technical work that delves into the science, mechanics, and logistics of filming and projecting movies in ways that make them more dynamic. It touches on the emerging technologies of the 1950s to make big-screen movies more appealing than TV, including Cinemascope, Cinerama, glasses-based 3D, and the eventual winner of the race, wide-screen. An interesting snapshot of the early days of a media rivalry that still continues.
