Fernando de Szyszlo was one of the most important influences in post-war Latin American art, and his bold style is in full display in this striking collection. Blending Cubism and abstraction with the Renaissance masters' control of light and dark, de Szyszlo's aquatints present a viewer with depth through richness of hues, amplified by the grand scale of EL LUGAR, LOS INSTRUMENTOS.

The Object

First edition. Bogota, Columbia: Arte Dos Gráfico, (1991). 21.75'' x 17.25''. Eight loose folia in red paper wrapper. Seven aquatints with tissue guards, eight abstract engravings, each in a different color (one in blind). First folio with [7] leaves, other folia with [3] leaves. Each plate signed by de Szyszlo and numbered 57 of 99. In original red cloth clamshell box with paper spine label, signed by de Szyszlo to front. Box with light bumping to lower spine ends, tiny area of repair to outer edge; front inner lining beginning to warp a touch. A couple of leaves with a hint of finger soiling to margins. Sharp and bright.
