Part spiritual classic, part canonical 1970's positive thinking fable, SEAGULL was published in 1970 (after being rejected by more than 20 publishers and earning Bach a mere $2000 advance), but it wasn't until almost two years later that the book became the phenomenon we now know. Indeed, when first issued the book was practically ignored. Despite this, the book went on to be the bestselling novel of both 1972 and 1973. For obvious reasons, therefore, later printings are rather ubiquitous. The true first edition, however, is genuinely scarce — especially in nice condition, as they tended to be well-read. This initial printing consisted of only 7500 copies, fewer than half of which initially sold to bookstores (and most of the remainder would have gone to libraries). A beautiful copy of one of the quintessential books of the 1970s.
