"A long time ago, people used to tell magical tales of wonder and enchantment. Those stories were called Fairy Tales. Those stories are not in this book."
THE STINKY CHEESE MAN was Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith's second work as an author-illustrator team, and one of their best-known: it won the NEW YORK TIMES Best Illustrated Book Award, as well as a Caldecott Honor. Smith's charmingly peculiar artistic style has graced publications from children's literature to periodicals, and even the covers of punk rock albums. His children's book illustrations have earned him numerous accolades, including two Caldecott Medals and five New York Times' Best Illustrated Book awards, as well as the adoration of numerous slightly off-center kids (including this cataloguer, who has many fond memories of THE STINKY CHEESE MAN).
