Beautiful postwar edition of "The Song of Songs" illustrated by one of the leaders of the Bezalel School, published in Israel.
THE SONG OF SOLOMON
SONG OF SOLOMON, first published in 1923, is a fantastic example of the aesthetic goals of the Bezalel School. Founded as a Jewish counterpart to the English Arts and Crafts movement and other artistic collectives with strong social components, the Bezalel School was concerned both with creating beautiful objects and with establishing the decorative identity of the coalescing Israeli state. Raban taught at the school beginning in 1914, and his blend of Art Nouveau and Middle Eastern styles left an indelible mark on Israel's visual arts. A beautiful copy.
