"Bridge, across the river twisty, / From our housetop far away, / When I saw you, faint and misty, / Like a spider-web of gray."
Gertrude Kay studied under Howard Pyle at the Drexel Institute in Philadelphia – her stylish use of flowing colors situates her squarely in the Golden Age tradition. Meanwhile, the tipped-in poem about WWI signals the beginning of the end of this period of cultural innocence.
