First edition of the tale of two mischievous monkeys in India, published in Bombay.
Very good plus.
MONTY THE MONKEY
"We always maintain that we got the best of the bargain as we don't have to work and can eat what we like without ill effects."
This title is from the 12-volume "Thacker's Dumpy Books" set, an imitator of the late 19th-early 20th-century "Dumpy Books" published by Grant Richards. The series may have arisen in an effort to cultivate the nostalgia of its English colonial audience living abroad in India.
Bombay: Thacker & Co., Ltd., 1943. 5.5'' x 4.25''. Original cloth-backed boards with color pictorial paste-on. Illustrated throughout in black and white. 61, pages. Boards with mild scuffing and edgewear; spotting to spine. Occasional soil to leaves. A sound copy.
