Includes "The Red Shoes," "Little Swineherd," "Garden of Paradise," and others. This copy is especially noteworthy for its bookplate, marking the ownership of bookseller Charles Muskett. The bookplate's shade appears to match the Poison Book Project's sample swatch of arsenical green shades (as do the boards of a book he published later in 1860, THE NATURAL HISTORY OF THE COUNTY OF NORFOLK). Given the date (approx. 1840s-1850s) and location (London/Norwich), it is likely the bookplate is arsenical. Thus far very little scholarly work has been done on the subject of arsenical bookplates; this copy is worthy of further study.

Illustrated with 3 full-page plates by the Dalziel Brothers (calls for a fourth by Scott, but this must be a binding error, as the binding is tight and there is no evidence of removal between pp. 64-65 where that plate is bound in other copies). Publisher's ads at rear. 230, [2] pages. Small circular bookplate to front pastedown in (likely) arsenical green, "Muskett / Norwich." Additional ink owner name to front pastedown. Hinges cracked but holding. A bit of foxing to first and last leaves, touch of toning to spine. Bright.
