By Eulalie Osgood Grover, illustrated by Bertha L. Corbett
First edition of the first book by a major publisher with the iconic Sunbonnet Babies and their coy hidden faces, quite scarce in this condition.
THE SUNBONNET BABIES' BOOK
Bertha Corbett (later Melcher) self-published two small books of her Sunbonnet Babies illustrations before approaching Rand, McNally & Company in the hopes of finding a wider audience. Grover, one of the editor's sisters and a former elementary school teacher, saw the potential in the characters and collaborated with Corbett to produce this book – which turned out to be the beginning of a phenomenon, with the Sunbonnet Babies appearing on everything from quilts to porcelains. A terrific copy.
