Duotone Art Deco illustrated picture book, inscribed at length by Derème to the French Minister of Foreign Affairs and former Prime Minister Louis Barthou.
LES HISTOIRES DE PATACHOU
Derème was a poet and politician; at the time of this book's publication, he was working in the Ministry of Agriculture and became friends with Barthou. Derème's inscription from the year of publication – taking up nearly the entirety of the page – mentions the book's roots in his "Béarnaise childhood." Below that, Barthou has inscribed the book in 1933 to a little girl, Francine, "pour qu'elle lise ce livre...quand elle sera petite." A surprising but touching association copy.
Paris: Émile-Paul Frères, (1932). 12.5'' x 9.5''. Original quarter red cloth, original black pictorial boards. Illustrated by Hellé in color throughout. Text in French. 40 pages. Inscribed by Derème at length on half title; additionally inscribed by Barthou below Derème's inscription. Only trace edgewear.
