ARTHUR RACKHAM'S BOOK OF PICTURES
"[I]n this book Mr. Rackham, who has acheived much fame by illustrating the inventions of other men, has turned to illustrate himself; and the order of the drawings has been arranged so that you may follow, if you will, the liberation of his fancy."
The book is divided into six thematic sections: "Of the Little People," with fairies, elves, etc.; "Classic," with mythological subjects; "Some Fairy Tales," including Jack and the Beanstalk and Puss in Boots; "Some Children,"; "Grotesque," with monsters like the Leviathan and dragons; and "Various," a selection of beautiful images not easily categorized. Illustrated with 44 fantastically beautiful mounted color plates with lettered guards and several charming black and whites. An excellent copy.
London: William Heinemann, (1913). Quarto. 11.75'' x 9.25''. Original white gilt-stamped cloth. Top edge gilt. Illustrated by Rackham. Only light foxing. Spine slightly toned and light soil on edge of cover else clean and tight with no spotting.
