"If to your young and trustful / hearts, / The grace of God is given, / Be earnest, as our MARIAN was, / To seek the road to heaven."
LITTLE MARIAN recounts the familiar tale of a child who has taken a story far too literally – in this case, Marian sets off on her own journey to find heaven after reading PILGRIM'S PROGRESS. Originally published in codex form in 1852 as LITTLE MARIAN'S PILGRIMAGE, this charming shape book capitalizes on the novelty of die-cut books in the mid-19th century, most notably those of Louis Prang. LITTLE MARIAN features chromolithographs by prominent Philadelphia lithographer Ferdinand Moras, who also provided illustrations for a variety of medical texts. This copy is in exceptionally sharp condition, and scarce thus.
