Young John is whisked away to North Africa on an enchanted flying rug, which draws him into a magical adventure. The d'Aulaires spent a winter in Africa researching this work, producing over 2,000 study sketches and paintings. While the villain falls into cultural caricature, the story overall is a beautiful and fantastical adventure with a young Bedouin girl guiding the journey.
Garden City: Doubleday, Doran & Co. Inc, 1931. 8'' x 10.5''. Original cloth backed color pictorial boards. Lacks dust jacket, but with clippings from dust jacket flaps laid in.
