"Give me a girl at an impressionable age, and she is mine for life."
One of Spark's best-known and most influential novels, set in 1930s Edinburgh among the girls of the 'Brodie set': the favored pupils of Miss Brodie, a teacher engaged in the process of "putting old heads on [their] young shoulders." An ambiguous study of influence, favor, loyalty, and betrayal, sent against an anxious pre-war political backdrop. The subject of numerous award-winning dramatic adaptations, the novel is perennially ranked among the best novels of the 20th century.
