"Daddy's mean but he'd never kill if he could help it. That's one thing I know."
First published in hardcover in 1969, Grafton's second published novel preceded her Kinsey Millhone mysteries by more than a decade. THE LOLLY-MADONNA WAR is a gritty tale of violent Tennessee hill-country family feuding that ends in a shower of gunfire and blood: powerfully attractive themes and imagery for 1970s Hollywood. The novel was consequently adapted into the film LOLLY-MADONNA XXX in 1973 by director Richard Sarafian, with a screenplay co-written by Grafton and starring Rod Steiger, Jeff Bridges, and Gary Busey. Only published in the U.K; rare in any edition, particularly signed.
