The Random House synopsis included with this publisher's review copy of CITY COOL notes that De Jongh and Cleveland wrote the novel in part at the Harlem Writer's Workshop (ie, the Harlem Writers' Guild). The authors' inscriptions make this connection personal: they both penned notes of thanks to Bill Ford, who was the director of the Guild at the time. A important association of this well-received novel about gangs in Harlem.
